Eval q. 1: Genre Conventions

This is the final trailer, but with annotations that analyse the genre conventions seen within my trailer.

The purpose of our films promotional package is to target audiences between the ages of 18-30 with the majority of viewers being male. This is because the genre which my group and I are conveying is all to do with disaster. We have made our trailer about 2 minutes long in order for this audience not to be lost by a trailer that is too long, this length is enough to grasp the attention of our target audience as well as hold them watching the trailer instead of them losing focus. This is also why the rest of our promotional package is synergised with each other, in order for the target audience to relate all of the products together.

Our films unique selling point is the fact that our movie is following the lives of teenagers put in a life threatening situation that could wipe out the whole population of the United Kingdom.

Throughout the trailer you can see different codes and conventions that are seen within the action/adventure genre. It starts within the trailers ident which is exciting visuals of police car lights and the companies name appearing within the ident. This already creates an exciting effect before the trailer even starts. Some of the lighting within the scenes within the trailer is dark due to the genre and storyline of the trailer ending up being a dark vision of the future. You can also see the genre through the editing of fast and hard cuts inbetween clips and scenes in order to create a sense of urgency and threat which is what the movie is all about. You can also see how our trailer goes back to the action/adventure genre with certain camera angles being handheld which creates the effect that the audience is within the world of the movie. Another shot that is seen within our trailer is a tracking shot which is seen within a lot of action/adventure genre feature films. Some parts of our trailer creates a sense of enigma when characters are faced with dilemmas and the audience watching the trailer doesn't find out how the characters decide these dilemmas.
